We Didn’t Bring the Boys….to Wiscaaansin

Our 5th annual Saints trip is in the books and this year we went to Wisconsin (Wiscaaansin according to the locals). I can’t lie, I was not excited about this one. I just didn’t know what there would be to do in Wisconsin besides the game and I definitely come on these football trips for the Saturdays. The day we usually go exploring a new city. When searching for an AirBnB, I came across a description that said the location was perfect for a day trip to Door County. Once I looked into Door County, my excitement level changed.

We flew into Milwaukee because it was hundreds of dollars cheaper than flying into Green Bay. Luckily, our friends flew in the night before and picked us up in their rental car to make the drive together to Green Bay. It was a pretty drive, lots of open hills and farms. The best part, real fall colors! I didn’t know seeing red and yellow leaves could make me so excited. After a nearly two hour drive and a stop to get groceries, we made it to the most perfect AirBnB. This place was a football lovers dream. So many cool places to hangout throughout the house that we didn’t know where to start. We spent the first night grilling, hot tubbing, and playing all the games.

On Saturday, we planned a trip to Door County and I was so excited. If you are unaware, as was I, Door County is the peninsula of Wisconsin that juts out into Lake Michigan. It consists of beautiful shoreline, harbors, vineyards & wineries, and specialty cheese shops. It’s a charcuterie lovers dream, lol. It’s my dream. How did I not realize that Wisconsin was famous for cheese? They wear cheeseheads at the Packers games for crying out loud. We started the day with brunch at The Rusty Tractor, which was the cutest breakfast barn you’ve ever seen. It was so delicious! After that we headed to Door Peninsula Winery where they were having free tastings. They had hundreds of wines on tap, hundreds. The cool thing was it was also connected to a distillery so everyone could find something they liked. After that, we headed to Harbor Ridge Winery which happened to be right next door to Wisconsin Cheese Masters. We tried everything and by we I mean I tried my fair share and Branden made friends with the workers and tried about 30 different kinds of cheese, holding up the whole line. We bought some to bring back to the AirBnB but plan to get some shipped home when the weather cools off! Next, we headed to Egg Harbor. We were able to check out the harbor and the first sights of fall. We did a little shopping, had some brews at One Barrel Brewing and had some cheese curds on the Mezzanine rooftop (because when in Wisconsin). We headed home in just enough time to watch the LSU game and share a giant charcuterie board from everything we bought that day.

Sunday was game day and the guys woke everyone up at 7:30am singing the ESPN theme song. They were so excited. Our AirBnB was walking distance to the stadium so they played games out front as all the packers fans parked and walked by. You can imagine the smack talking that went on and my husband is the #1 smack talker at football games. We got dressed and headed to Titletown around 9:30. We watched our husbands turn into big kids as they ran a 40 yard dash and kicked field goals on the Titletown field. We listened to some live music and got a drink at Hinderland Brewing. We headed into the stadium around 11 to find our seats and get some food. The stadium was beautiful and we were enjoying our seats, until we found out that our seats came with access to the rooftop viewing area, then we never made it back down to our seats again! The Saints lost, but it was a fun game to watch and the Packers fans were so fun to hang out with! I didn’t know midwesterners were so hospitable! I thought it was only a southern thing. After the game we headed back to Hinderland Brewing, met the owner by chance, and got our own private tour of the brewery. We also met the mayor of Green Bay, perks of having such a sociable husband and friends. We grabbed some dinner there as well, delicious, then made the walk back to the house. Sunday evening consisted of packing and soaking in the last evening with our friends. We ended up piling on the couch and watching some stand up comedy on Netflix. Great way to end the trip!

We are currently sitting on our airplane in Green Bay, delayed, and waiting for clearance to takeoff. We choose to fly out of here to get home faster to our boys while our friends are driving back to Milwaukee for their flights this afternoon. Let’s hope we make it there before them! For being a place that I didn’t initially want to go, I’m pleased to say I’d go back in a heartbeat. But I’ll stay at a lake house in Door County and just drive down for the game 😂

We Brought the Boys… to Houston, again!

We brought the boys to Houston for a quick little weekend getaway. This is our second documented trip to Houston with the kids but we’ve been quite a few times. This was also our first road trip without electronics since we took them away. We had to get creative to pass the time so we created a license plate game, made a snack box, and brought a few activity books! It was a much more pleasant drive than I anticipated!       Our first stop of the trip was The Woodlands for the boys first concert. We arrived at  The Westin , always my hotel of choice, and headed to the pool to pass the time until the concert that night. We got about an hour of swim time in before the sky fell out so we went inside and had a late lunch so the weather could pass. Around 5 we made the walk to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion to see Young the Giant and Cage the Elephant. The boys jam out to Young the Giant in Branden’s truck so I was excited to see their reaction to the band in person. They did not d

We Brought the Boys….to Winter Park

After going to Winter Park last spring break, my sister in law and brother in law extended an invitation for us to join them this year. We were a little hesitant at first to bring a 4 and 6 year old on the slopes but we decided we were up for the challenge!      We had a direct flight from New Orleans to Denver on Easter Sunday. While we hated to miss the holiday with our family, we lucked out with slim airport crowds!       We took a Home James shuttle from the airport to the resort! The shuttle was clean, the driver was friendly, and he even stopped to get us a good burger before we ventured out into the mountains. He dropped us off at our condo, Founder’s Pointe. All props go to my sister in law for finding this place when she came last year. It was the perfect location! You could walk to the busses to go into town and walk to the village and ski lift. She also had the great idea to get a floor level room so that we didn’t have to lug our gear up the stairs everyday. Way to g
