Our first stop of the trip was The Woodlands for the boys first concert. We arrived at The Westin, always my hotel of choice, and headed to the pool to pass the time until the concert that night. We got about an hour of swim time in before the sky fell out so we went inside and had a late lunch so the weather could pass. Around 5 we made the walk to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion to see Young the Giant and Cage the Elephant. The boys jam out to Young the Giant in Branden’s truck so I was excited to see their reaction to the band in person. They did not disappoint! Seeing a concert through these boys eyes was like seeing one for the first time. We got some cheap seats and lawn chairs and watched as the boys were paralyzed by the music. At one point Brooks turned around and said, “I can feel the music in my body”! They sang every single song (messing up the words terribly) and stood up to dance. They were the perfect concert kids so this definitely won’t be our last one!
On Saturday morning we headed to downtown Houston for an Astros game. As my boys become more involved in the game of baseball their love for it grows! We had a few hours to spare before the 3:00 game so we made our way to a park that I had seen on Tik Tok, The Commons @ Hermann Park. It probably tops my list as best playground we have ever been to. We stayed for about two hours before we were absolutely drenched in sweat. If you have young kids and find yourself near Houston, check it out! After the park we were in search of a cool drink and some AC. We checked into our hotel downtown, The Hyatt, and made the walk to Frost Town Brew, a brewery not too far from Minute Maid Park. I had the Orange Ale, Branden had some IPA, the boys had fancy sodas, and we played an intense game of battleship and go fish. It was the perfect downtime before the game!
After we finished our drinks at the brewery we headed into the stadium! We spent the first few innings watching from our seats before getting up and exploring a bit. We ended up in the standing room only section of left field where the boys hoped to catch a ball. We befriended some guys from Australia who Branden spent the next 3 innings explaining the game of baseball to. They were super nice and let our boys stand right up front! We eventually headed back up to our seats for the last few innings including one extra inning. The Astros ended up losing and Baylor cried, showing his true competitive spirit. His tears were quickly dried when an employee let us know where the players came out. We snagged an autograph on our gloves from Jake Meyers as he walked out. We thought the day couldn’t get any better but right as we were going to leave we saw Alex Bregman pull out of the parking garage, so we waved and screamed Geaux Tigers! In true Louisiana hospitality fashion he rolled his window down and signed the boys gloves!! They haven’t stopped talking about it since!
From there we floated, I mean walked, to Lone Star Taco for dinner before calling it an early night. The next morning we made the necessary stop at Bucees to fuel up for the ride home, with gas and random snacks. This trip has set the bar as far as baseball game expectations for the boys. They are currently talking about whose autograph they want next and which MLB stadium we should visit. They also think yelling Geaux Tigers is the key to getting all autographs! 🤣
Here’s to more memories with these crazy little boys! And if your are wondering about the license plate game, we counted 27 different states!
