I've been long overdue for a blog post, and frankly long overdue for a vacation. This fall has been crazy with work, work trips, and baseball for the boys. We passed on our annual Saints trip this fall due to how busy we were, but decided we needed a weekend away. In fact, a whole group of our friends decided they all needed a weekend away too, so we went to planning. We decided on Bay St. Louis and found the cutest Air BnB The Salty Bungalow
We headed out on Friday with no plans. We knew we'd have to get lunch and waste some time until our 4:00 check in. We had a friend tell us about a lunch spot called Jet A Way Cafe that overlooks the runway of the Stennis Airport(the building is called Million Air). He said you could grab a bite to eat and watch the planes take off and land and my airplane loving husband was in. I was a little skeptical at first, because it had serious school cafeteria vibes. But to my surprise the food was really good, like really really good. We got to see a few planes take off and land and agreed that we have to bring the boys one day. After lunch we went right across the street to grab a drink at Lazy Magnolia Brewing. The brewery has definitely upgraded since we went 9 or so years ago but I have to admit, the beer is not our favorite. If you are considering hitting some breweries in Mississippi, maybe drive a little further and go to Chandelier Brewing instead-the beer is much better.
Despite being the first couple to leave that day we were almost last to arrive at the Air BnB. Once unpacking and getting settled we took the 600ft walk to the beach. My husband pulled a fishing pole out of the back of the truck and claimed he packed it to practice his casting. It's his current hyper-fixation. 🤣 Once everyone arrived we got dressed and ubered to downtown Bay St. Louis for dinner at Trapani's Eatery. Shelby had her mind set on some spinach dip and fried bow tie pasta, and it did not disappoint. We bar hopped a little after dinner on the hunt for live music. We found it, we danced, we met Rod Stewart, and we stayed out later than most of us have in years. We ubered back home, played Telestrations, laughed way too hard, and when we looked at the clock and realized it was 1am we basically all ran to bed!
Saturday consisted of lots of eating and shopping. We started in downtown Bay St. Louis with breakfast at Mockingbird Cafe, keeping the tradition of fancy coffee on vacation alive. After breakfast we checked out the shops at century hall, fluerty girl, and basically every other little boutique and shop on the street. We lost the boys around store #2 when they decided to go check out the boats in the marina instead of shopping, and I can't say I was mad about that. We met back up for lunch at 200 North Beach. We ate upstairs in the sports lounge and watched some college game day! I got the crawfish cornbread and it was delicious! After lunch, everyone wanted to head back to the house- except for Kelly, Shelby, and I-we wanted to continue exploring. We dropped them off and headed to do some shopping in Ocean Springs (my favorite little coastal town). We all found a few little gifts-my favorite being a Where's Waldo type book called "Find the Farter" that my potty humor loving boys will find hilarious. We grabbed some coffee, got some steps in, and enjoyed the cool weather. My hubby spent his time fishing off the pier, all in his glory. We spent the evening at the house grilling, playing pool, and roasting Brie cheese over the fire. Don't knock it till you try it! Put it on a cracker with jam and prosciutto and thank me later. It's the adult s'mores you didn't know you needed.
Sunday morning everyone headed out to get their kiddos and get their lives together before the work week. We grabbed some breakfast at Harbor View Cafe in Long Beach and it was delicious! After breakfast we rode around a bit to check out the marina and look for a public boat launch. We are planning to return with the boys and the boat when the weather warms up to make a ride out to Ship Island.
It was a much needed rest and reset and the next one is already in the works, at least in my mind.
