We had planned our Summer 2025 vacation to be a Disney cruise out of Port Canaveral. But then, we found out that the Home Run Derby was going to be in Atlanta two days before our cruise was set to sail and we pulled the ultimate YOLO move. We live and breathe baseball in this house, how could we not go? We justified it by saying that it was basically on our way from Baton Rouge to Florida. 🤪
I was on operation-book the hotel, for the first and last time. What I thought I found was the Doubletree right next to the stadium, but instead it was the one 1.6 miles down the road. We began to panic, because no way these little boys were walking that far, but then we found out they had a shuttle to bring people to the stadium complete with chocolate chip cookies on the ride! We loaded up and headed to the All Star Village!
The All Star Village was Disney World for my baseball loving boys. We looked at all the new gloves and bats, all the old memorabilia from past players, figured out how fast we could pitch, hit in the batting cages, made a capitol one commercial, hung on a Velcro wall, and even participated in a mock MLB draft! We could have easily spent another day doing all the activities in the village.
After playing in the All Star Village we wanted to grab a bite to eat and waste some time before we went into the stadium. We spotted a place right outside the stadium called Battle & Brew and my husband immediately assumed it was a brewery and headed in that direction. Honestly, put brew in the name of your establishment and we will probably be there. To our pleasant surprise it was SO MUCH more than that! Yes, we could get a beer, but we also were seated at a table with our own personal TV and handed controllers to play Mario Kart while we waited for our food! Our inner 90's kids were thrilled!
Then it was time to head to the stadium. We were very very early but in my husband's mind it was time. We found our seats and just took it all in. We spent our life's savings on snacks. We bet on our favorite hitters. We counted homeruns. We tried to catch balls. We stayed until they kicked us out. We walked down to try to get an autograph from Cal Raleigh. They announced to the crowd several times that it was time to go home but then they shut the lights off and we really had to go.
