We Brought the Boys….to Winter Park

After going to Winter Park last spring break, my sister in law and brother in law extended an invitation for us to join them this year. We were a little hesitant at first to bring a 4 and 6 year old on the slopes but we decided we were up for the challenge!

We had a direct flight from New Orleans to Denver on Easter Sunday. While we hated to miss the holiday with our family, we lucked out with slim airport crowds!

We took a Home James shuttle from the airport to the resort! The shuttle was clean, the driver was friendly, and he even stopped to get us a good burger before we ventured out into the mountains. He dropped us off at our condo, Founder’s Pointe. All props go to my sister in law for finding this place when she came last year. It was the perfect location! You could walk to the busses to go into town and walk to the village and ski lift. She also had the great idea to get a floor level room so that we didn’t have to lug our gear up the stairs everyday. Way to go Nanny!  Once we got there we headed to the rental shop to pick up our gear, then into town to grab groceries for the week! The bus driver may have thought we were crazy to bring all those groceries on the bus, but we got the job done!

After a good nights sleep, we were ready for the slopes. Day 1 consisted of ski school for the kids while the grownups tried to remember how to ski. Baylor quit ski school 3 times because he missed his mom and I fell down more times than I can count, but the grownups got an uninterrupted lunch on top of the mountain so it was worth it! After skiing from 9-3 we were done for the day and finished up with some hot tub time!

Day 2 and we couldn’t believe how sore we already were! We decided to take a break and hit the Fraser Tubing Hill. SO MUCH FUN! At first we purchased tubes for only the kids, then decided we needed another one because the grownups couldn’t resist! After tubing we walked down the hill to Fraser River Brewing Company for a good beer, some dynamite tacos, and a few games! We stopped at Hideaway Park to let the kids plays and stumbled upon a sledding hill. The guys walked to a nearby cafe to grab us coffee and we sat and watched the kids play for hours!

Days 3,4, and 5 were spent shredding the slopes. I couldn’t believe how good my kids were for their first time. My nephews were basically professionals. To say I was nervous that they would fly off a cliff was an understatement. Thankfully my husband is a pretty experienced snowboarder and was able to guide them down the mountain. The tethers that hold their skis in a pizza position were a life saver, get them! We skied all day and hit the hot tub every afternoon. We celebrated my godchild’s birthday with dinner at Deno’s. It was so good and I highly recommend it! On the last day it began to snow! Like ALOT of snow! The kids were done skiing around lunch and we spent the afternoon playing in the snow! It’s safe to say they got their fill of the snow.

We had such a great time with our people and are ready to hit the slopes again next year! My husband is thrilled that his family can now join in on his love of the mountain! The only thing left to decide is where we should go next year!

We Brought the Boys… to Houston, again!

We brought the boys to Houston for a quick little weekend getaway. This is our second documented trip to Houston with the kids but we’ve been quite a few times. This was also our first road trip without electronics since we took them away. We had to get creative to pass the time so we created a license plate game, made a snack box, and brought a few activity books! It was a much more pleasant drive than I anticipated!       Our first stop of the trip was The Woodlands for the boys first concert. We arrived at  The Westin , always my hotel of choice, and headed to the pool to pass the time until the concert that night. We got about an hour of swim time in before the sky fell out so we went inside and had a late lunch so the weather could pass. Around 5 we made the walk to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion to see Young the Giant and Cage the Elephant. The boys jam out to Young the Giant in Branden’s truck so I was excited to see their reaction to the band in person. They did not d

We Didn’t Bring the Boys….to Wiscaaansin

Our 5th annual Saints trip is in the books and this year we went to Wisconsin (Wiscaaansin according to the locals). I can’t lie, I was not excited about this one. I just didn’t know what there would be to do in Wisconsin besides the game and I definitely come on these football trips for the Saturdays. The day we usually go exploring a new city. When searching for an AirBnB, I came across a description that said the location was perfect for a day trip to Door County. Once I looked into Door County, my excitement level changed.      We flew into Milwaukee because it was hundreds of dollars cheaper than flying into Green Bay. Luckily, our friends flew in the night before and picked us up in their rental car to make the drive together to Green Bay. It was a pretty drive, lots of open hills and farms. The best part, real fall colors! I didn’t know seeing red and yellow leaves could make me so excited. After a nearly two hour drive and a stop to get groceries, we made it to the most perfe
