We Brought the Boys….to Thunder over the Sound

We are suckers for an air show. We try to go anytime they come within driving distance of our house. The truth is, my husband wishes he was flying those planes and he probably would be if not for a detached retina in college. Lucky for me he detached that retina and we were able to meet! The last time we came to this air show in Biloxi was in 2018 and I told my in-laws we were pregnant with Baylor while watching the show! We have been wanting to come back since then but COVID. I believe this is the first year they bring it back.

We had some points on our credit card and were able to get a room at the Hyatt in Biloxi for Friday night. We figured it would be nice to beat the traffic there and have a place to park our car while we watched the show from the beach.(This turned out to be a very good decision, do this!)  We headed out right after school on Friday. You know that I couldn’t go to Mississippi without a visit to our favorite little town, so I sweet talked my husband into dinner in Ocean Springs. The sweet talking went like this, “Beer. Outdoor patio. Live music” and he was sold. We LOVE Ocean Springs so much that we daydream of owning a vacation home here. One day, maybe! We had dinner on the patio at Mosaic. The food, drinks, atmosphere, and music were all amazing. We swung by Fly Llama Brewing on the way back to the hotel and it was packed. The crowd looked like they were having a blast but it made me super anxious with two children so we didn’t stay too long. However, I got a pineapple satsuma seltzer to go and it was so good! Back at the hotel we let the boys play in the pool until almost 9:00 (because we are cool parents). Then we did the worst thing ever and made them go to bed.

Saturday morning we got to sleep in (thank goodness because it had been a long week)! We had breakfast at the Hyatt and I was so impressed! For a continental breakfast they had lots of options. Food was fresh, kitchen was clean, and we enjoyed it. We loaded up the wagon with our chairs and a picnic lunch and headed across the street to the beach around 9:30. Then we sat on the beach ALL day! We were worried at first because the rain chance was high but as the day went on the chances lowered and God provided us a beautiful day! The boys did all the things; collected shells, played baseball, met some friends, and swam. We were able to see bits and pieces of the air show as the planes flew over the air base, but we knew the real show was beginning around 3 for the viewers on the beach. The show was AWESOME and the planes came so close. I’m still amazed every time I see an air show at the skill of those pilots!

Next time you hear of an air show in Biloxi, GO! It is such a good time! And stay at the Hyatt! In addition to being clean and having free breakfast, it was almost show center! We’ll be there too, hopefully out on the boat catching the show from another perspective.

We Brought the Boys… to Houston, again!

We brought the boys to Houston for a quick little weekend getaway. This is our second documented trip to Houston with the kids but we’ve been quite a few times. This was also our first road trip without electronics since we took them away. We had to get creative to pass the time so we created a license plate game, made a snack box, and brought a few activity books! It was a much more pleasant drive than I anticipated!       Our first stop of the trip was The Woodlands for the boys first concert. We arrived at  The Westin , always my hotel of choice, and headed to the pool to pass the time until the concert that night. We got about an hour of swim time in before the sky fell out so we went inside and had a late lunch so the weather could pass. Around 5 we made the walk to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion to see Young the Giant and Cage the Elephant. The boys jam out to Young the Giant in Branden’s truck so I was excited to see their reaction to the band in person. They did not d

We Brought the Boys….to Winter Park

After going to Winter Park last spring break, my sister in law and brother in law extended an invitation for us to join them this year. We were a little hesitant at first to bring a 4 and 6 year old on the slopes but we decided we were up for the challenge!      We had a direct flight from New Orleans to Denver on Easter Sunday. While we hated to miss the holiday with our family, we lucked out with slim airport crowds!       We took a Home James shuttle from the airport to the resort! The shuttle was clean, the driver was friendly, and he even stopped to get us a good burger before we ventured out into the mountains. He dropped us off at our condo, Founder’s Pointe. All props go to my sister in law for finding this place when she came last year. It was the perfect location! You could walk to the busses to go into town and walk to the village and ski lift. She also had the great idea to get a floor level room so that we didn’t have to lug our gear up the stairs everyday. Way to g

We Didn’t Bring the Boys….to Wiscaaansin

Our 5th annual Saints trip is in the books and this year we went to Wisconsin (Wiscaaansin according to the locals). I can’t lie, I was not excited about this one. I just didn’t know what there would be to do in Wisconsin besides the game and I definitely come on these football trips for the Saturdays. The day we usually go exploring a new city. When searching for an AirBnB, I came across a description that said the location was perfect for a day trip to Door County. Once I looked into Door County, my excitement level changed.      We flew into Milwaukee because it was hundreds of dollars cheaper than flying into Green Bay. Luckily, our friends flew in the night before and picked us up in their rental car to make the drive together to Green Bay. It was a pretty drive, lots of open hills and farms. The best part, real fall colors! I didn’t know seeing red and yellow leaves could make me so excited. After a nearly two hour drive and a stop to get groceries, we made it to the most perfe
