We Brought the Boys….to Great Wolf Lodge

Beginning with our Disney trip last Christmas, we’ve decided that each Christmas we would give the gift of an experience to our boys instead of toys. This year we chose the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas. We picked it for a few reasons, one being that we could drive and another being because the boys have been asking to go to another water park since we took them to Schlitterbahn in May 2021. So, I did the research and booked the Kid Cabin Suite a few months prior to Christmas and we surprised the kids on Christmas morning!

This room was 100% worth the upgrade. The boys were tickled to have their own cabin inside the room to sleep in. One down side was that the mattresses and blankets were very thin, but my boys aren’t too picky and can sleep almost anywhere.

We signed up for the Wolf Pass when booking, which gave the kids access to all sorts of cool things like a gold mining experience, magic quest wands, an arcade card, and free candy and ice cream! We got there later in the day so we didn’t hit the water park the first day, but instead checked some things off their wolf pass!

The next morning we were up bright and early ready for the water park! The boys were sporting the Santa suits that I got them and they looked so cute! We spent the morning riding every slide and doing all the things the water park had to offer. The boys had a blast, but after a few hours mom and dad were ready for another adventure. So we jumped in the car and went to check out downtown Grapevine!

Grapevine claims to be the Christmas Capitol of Texas and for good reason. It was the week after Christmas and the town was still decked out in decorations. It was so cute, straight out of a Hallmark movie. We walked around  taking pictures, checking out the toy train display, and watching people ice skate on the rink in the square. We stopped at Judy Pie for a slice of key lime pie and it was delicious! I could have explored the town all day if I were with my girl friends, but my boys aren’t too fond of shopping. Dad always tries to sneak in visits to breweries in every place we visit so we visited Hop Sting Brewery which was only a few blocks walk off the main strip in Grapevine. He said it was good but Ive never heard of a brewery he didn’t like.

The next morning we decided to try out the ropes course at the lodge. My boys are too brave for my comfort but thankfully they have a daddy who is just as brave. We cashed in on our free ice cream before lunch (major mom points right there) then headed to Fort Worth. We had a quick lunch stop at Soul Fire Brewing which was a brewery connected to a food court. Again, dad approved. We even found a chef from Lafayette in the food court. After lunch, our Texas Lotz family took us to the Stockyards and showed us a great time. We were able to see the Cattle Drive, watch a gun fight,  and Brooks even got to sit on a longhorn! After the stockyards, Jamiel and Justin cooked us dinner while Joslyn and her friends entertained the boys. We had such a great day we even contemplated staying longer!

Overall, it was a nice trip. The lodge was cute with lots of things for the kids to do. The food at the lodge was just okay, nothing spectacular. Grapevine is the cutest little town (you must visit during Christmas) and the stockyards with our family was definitely the highlight! Until next time, Texas!

We Brought the Boys.....to play baseball at the beach!

The hardest part of starting this post was deciding what to name it because technically, we visited several places during this trip. This was also the longest beach trip we've ever taken so by the end of it I forgot all the details of what happened in the beginning. Ultimately, I decided to group it all together and share the highlights!       Days 1-6 of our trip were spent in Orange Beach playing in the Perfect Game Gulf Coast World Series. This year was our first travel ball experience and this was our first baseball World Series experience as well. It started with a pinning ceremony at The Wharf. My oldest son may look exactly like me, but don't be fooled. He is his daddy made over. His ability to make friends quickly and his outgoing personality made him a GOAT at pin trading. I think he traded all 20 pins within the first 10 minutes, and then proceeded to help some teammates trade theirs as well. It was so HOT in that amphitheater but so fu...

We brought the boys.....to the Home Run Derby

We had planned our Summer 2025 vacation to be a Disney cruise out of Port Canaveral. But then, we found out that the Home Run Derby was going to be in Atlanta two days before our cruise was set to sail and we pulled the ultimate YOLO move. We live and breathe baseball in this house, how could we not go? We justified it by saying that it was basically on our way from Baton Rouge to Florida. 🤪  I was on operation-book the hotel, for the first and last time. What I thought I found was the Doubletree right next to the stadium, but instead it was the one 1.6 miles down the road. We began to panic, because no way these little boys were walking that far, but then we found out they had a shuttle to bring people to the stadium complete with chocolate chip cookies on the ride! We loaded up and headed to the All Star Village!  The All Star Village was Disney World for my baseball loving boys. We looked at all the new gloves and bats, all the old memorabilia from past playe...

We Brought the Boys….to Centennial Plaza

Being a teacher, I get the pleasure of staying home with the boys all summer long. We spent most of June home and by the time July had got here, we had the vacation itch. We had a week long family vacation to Orange Beach, Alabama planned and were going to head there on Sunday but we just couldn’t wait any longer. We decided to begin our vacation early on Thursday with a trip to Centennial Plaza. Centennial Plaza in Gulfport, Mississippi had been on our list of places to visit for a while. Mostly, because it’s a quick drive for us and the boys love the water. We booked super last minute (like the day before we left) so the Oasis (which is the hotel with rooms that sleep 4 or more) was sold out. We were able to find a king room at the Centennial (another hotel on the property) and just bring an air mattress for the kids.       Do you see those faces? Those are the faces of two boys who had just been introduced to snackle boxes. I bought two tackle boxes ...
